coming out
Oct. 1st, 2003 10:04 pmso, i watched a show on E! this evening about out gay celebrities. one thing that struck me was the whole "coming out" process. why should we have to come out? i mean, society doesn't force heterosexuals to announce "yes, i am heterosexual." i kind of get the concept of being the minority and such, but it seems to me that it really shouldn't matter who i sleep with or find desireable.
at one point they had a clip of rosie o'donnell talking about how she knew coming out would affect her professional career; like how they would forever attach "lesbian" to her name (lesbian rosie o'donnell.) she said she didn't understand it, that it would be the same as saying "aries rosie o'donnell" or "size 10 shoe wearing rosie o'donnell." very true statements, but really irrelevant to the scheme of things.
i wonder if we will ever figure out how to not judge people.
on related notes, even though i am poor, i am going to pay for showtime so i can watch QAF and the new show "The L Word"
because i <3 QAF, and I want to check out "The L Word."
